Caprese Salad

A summer classic!

Caprese Salad

This recipe can easily be scaled up or down. It’s inspired by my German host mom, Petra, who never uses a recipe. She likes to bring it to late summer parties because it doesn’t require heating up the kitchen.


2 large tomatoes
2 balls fresh mozzarella cheese
1 large bunch fresh italian basil
olive oil
balsamic vinegar


Slice the tomatoes and mozzarella about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick. Alternately layer tomato slices, cheese slices, and basil leaves in rows or a circle or whatever shape seems fun. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
